McLoughlin Decorating worked alongside S&T; a global construction company to undergo a complete refurbishment and renovation to the Principal London, formally known as the Russell Hotel, a 120- year old Grade II listed landmark building, 5* Hotel on Russell Square. We took on the redecoration of 334 bedrooms and suites, including the two-bedroom Principal suite, reinstated iconic Palm Court, reconfigured lobbies and reception. The hotel is made up of 8 different levels, once levels 1-6 were complete these became occupied with guests and the hotel was able to operate as normal.

Johnstone’s paint was specified throughout the hotel, with a variety of colours chosen by the client used to brighten the hotel, giving it a young sophisticated touch. Anaglypta wallpaper was used as well as Altfield’s Jakarta 09 Bronze wallpaper that was flown in from America. When working with tight deadlines, ordering materials from suppliers overseas can be very time consuming, however with good communication between the client, the supplier and ourselves we managed to complete in good time.

The woodwork in the guestrooms was in a bad condition, meaning there was an extensive amount of filling, therefore a excessive amount of Toupret wood repair filler was used in the redecoration.

Overall, we are extremely happy with the outcome of the redecoration, as are S&T and we are proud to have been a part of such a memorable renovation.
