McLoughlin Decorating was appointed to complete the internal decorations of two newly built residential buildings in Canary Wharf, providing a total of 297 units. Designed to reflect the area’s industrial heritage, the structures feature hand-set masonry façades replicating the detailing of old wharf buildings.
Project Scope
- Full decoration of walls, ceilings and woodwork in the G1 and G5 buildings.
- Amenity levels finished with vibrant decorative treatments, including varied colours and wallcoverings.
- Corridor and lift lobby designs featuring two-tone wall schemes, creating a striking visual impact.
Highlight
A standout element of this project was the meticulous execution of multi-colour two-tone walls in all corridors and lift lobbies. With no natural break lines to guide application, our decorators used a laser level to achieve precise and seamless transitions. This showcased the team’s exceptional skill, accuracy and attention to detail.
Challenges & Solutions
The project was delivered under a tight and ever-changing client programme, requiring frequent adjustments to accommodate delays caused by preceding trades. Despite these hurdles, our team maintained flexibility and professionalism, ensuring:
- Continuous alignment with updated schedules.
- Consistently flawless finishes across all surfaces.
- Delivery without compromising quality standards.
Creativity & Finish
The amenity levels provided an opportunity for creative decorative finishes, including bespoke colour schemes and unique wallcoverings. These elements added character, vibrancy and style, complementing the overall architectural design.
Social Value
As part of our commitment to supporting the next generation of tradespeople, three apprentices worked alongside our team of experienced painters on this project. This provided hands-on learning opportunities in a live construction environment, developing skills in both standard and complex decorative techniques.
By integrating apprentices into high-profile projects such as Canary Wharf, McLoughlin Decorating not only delivers exceptional results for clients but also contributes to skills development, employment pathways and community benefit.
Outcome
This project tested both the technical expertise and adaptability of the McLoughlin Decorating team. The result is a striking, high-quality finish that exceeded client expectations and demonstrates our commitment to excellence in every detail—while also creating positive social impact through apprenticeship opportunities.
